Executive Director:

The BALSA Foundation is seeking a volunteer for the Executive Director position who is passionate about promoting entrepreneurship in underserved communities and developing relationships in the local business community.

 

About Us

The BALSA Foundation is a small, dynamic nonprofit run by volunteers passionate about promoting social equity and economic prosperity in the St. Louis region by empowering first-time entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.  Our BALSA Grant awards small cash grants, professional services, and mentorship to first time entrepreneurs who need and can benefit from it the most.  This program is funded by the BALSA Group and our partners in the local business community.  

 

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall operational management of The BALSA Foundation, for maintaining strong connections with the community, and leading fundraising efforts. She or he is expected to oversee and guide the Board of Directors, to ensure general operations are being performed and consistently improved, and to continuously work toward ensuring the sustainability of the Foundation. The ED is responsible for ensuring the Foundation is in good standing with federal and state tax and governmental agencies. The ED serves as the face of the Foundation representing all members, applicants, advisors, and advocates. She or he is expected to maintain current relationships with community stakeholders and to foster new relationships with organizations that share a similar mission. When favorable fundraising opportunities arise, the ED will be responsible for drafting fund solicitations in alignment with the mission, spirit, and culture of the BALSA Foundation and the BALSA Group.

 

Responsibilities:

Primary:

  • Lead monthly board of director meetings

  • Lead Fundraising efforts, maintain relationships with the BALSA Group and other funders.

  • Oversee and manage the team of officers to ensure programming is functioning as it should, and recruit volunteers

  • Send out Foundation announcements and solicitation, as necessary

  • Ensure the Foundation maintains good standing with the Missouri Secretary of State. 

  • Respond to solicitations received through the website. The ED will receive messages sent through the Foundation website and respond to inquiries. 

Secondary:

  • The ED shall ensure all Foundation stakeholders stay engaged and are aware of the Foundation’s progress, growth, and success by working with the Communications Director.

  • Assist in Maintaining the overall contact databases

 

Requirements:

  • 5-10 hours a week of volunteer time

  • Passionate about helping entrepreneurs from underserved communities

  • Enthusiastic about promoting entrepreneurship and business development

  • Willingness to work closely with and provide mentorship to BALSA Grant finalists

  • Desire to develop networking skills and develop a Saint Louis network

  • Demonstration of strong communication and interpersonal skills
