The BALSA Foundation is seeking a volunteer for the Manager of Alumni Relations and Mentorship position who is passionate about promoting entrepreneurship in underserved communities and developing relationships in the local business community.
About Us
The BALSA Foundation is a small, dynamic nonprofit run by volunteers passionate about promoting economic opportunity through entrepreneurship. The BALSA Foundation’s mission is to promote social equity and prosperity in the St. Louis region by empowering first-time entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. Our BALSA Grant awards small cash grants, professional services, and mentorship to first time entrepreneurs who need and can benefit from it the most. This program is funded by the BALSA Group and our partners in the local business community.
Position Summary:
The Manager of Alumni Relations and Mentorship primary responsibilities are to support and manage alumni needs and mentorship opportunities. In particular, this position is responsible for transitioning alumni out of the Learning Series and working with the Business Director and Program Director to do so; understanding programming needs for alumni and mentorship opportunities and organizing such programs as needed. This officer position involves a volunteer commitment of about 2-5 hours/week throughout the year and includes membership on the BALSA Foundation Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity to build a strong professional network in the St. Louis business and entrepreneurial communities while making a real positive change in people’s lives.
Responsibilities:
Primary:
Manage the BALSA Foundation Alumni Roster
Manage the Alumni Technical Assistance Grant
Coordinate at least one alumni event per year
Survey and convene alumni at least once a year about needs and to inform programming throughout the year
Manage and maintain a mentorship opportunities roster and contact list
Work directly with the Program Director and Business Director to help alumni network and establish mentorship relationships
Participate in monthly Board of Director meetings
Secondary:
Assist board members with organizing and running events including the BALSA Grant awards ceremony, and outreach events (e.g. Venture Café)
Requirements:
Passionate about helping entrepreneurs from underserved communities
Enthusiastic about promoting entrepreneurship and business development
Willingness to work closely with and provide mentorship to BALSA Grant finalists
Desire to develop networking skills and develop a Saint Louis network
Demonstration of strong communication and interpersonal skills
